I'm MAKING the time to say ALOHA to the glorious summer sun + sharing some budget {under $20} makeover ideas to freshen us up for the new season. I know I needed a boost + it's amazing what you can do for your mood/look for under twenty bucks. I feel like I've shed my winter skin, so in case anyone else was feeling the same as this previously-hibernating black duck ~ here's my tips to share!

I was literally hiding under a doona of hair. That needed to GO! I like my long hair & all, but it is ridiculous to rock it in a hot, humid North QLD summer. C'mon ~ thanks to the magic of Photobooth I can show you the ridiculous thick mane I was ignoring & wearing in a top knot for months. Seriously?!

OK ~ so a chop for $20 from a local lovely home hairdresser. I got it thinned/razored out as much as possible & a good 20 odd centimetres off the length. Loving it sick. But the fading & growing out red colour {that to be honest, is way too much maintenance for me} had to go next.

I chose Nice & Easy 'Natural Medium Golden Brown' to give my hair an even all over colour. I knew my hair wouldn't go the intended colour due to the red pigment already in it ~ but I'll get there eventually. Cost me approx $14. Bargain for fresh, shiny, even coloured locks.

After bub goes to bed at night time ~ I get a chance to freshen up the ol' manicure without chance of it getting smudgy. My favourites this summer are Revlon 'Tropicana' {although I have a feeling this is out of stock, but it's a gorgeous orange/red shade that my sister got me on to last year} & Australis 'Sweet Pea' ~ loving alternating between these two bright shades!

BEST new make up find is Maybelline's 'Lasting Drama' gel eyeliner. I've been using Stila previously {needing to order from OS for a bargain price} but THIS is only $16.95 at Priceline. It's doesn't smudge after it's set + is perfect for the winged cat-eye look. I'd recommend using a good angled eyeliner brush as I think it gives a better effect than the one included. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

And for one of the best pieces of beauty news I've heard in awhile ~ Monne is back in business!! I've previously raved about Monne express self tan HERE in 2008; but not long after it disappeared off our shelves to my dismay + caused me to try a gazillion other budget priced self tanners in hopes of coming across something similar. But to no avail. But now I don't need to worry as this gorgeous green-based natural looking self tanner is BACK! And to celebrate I've got 2 bottles to give away to 2 lovely ladies!

To score a bottle; just leave a comment on this post! EASY! If you'd like to leave your budget tip for a summer makeover ~ I'll love you just that little bit more. I'll take all the summer-fying I can get!

17 little notes:
Gorgeous and simple Summer-love-yourself tips, Nikki!
My never-fail 'feel-better' tip is to give myself a good lip scrub! Once my lips have lost their dry and flaky winter coat, I'm in the mood for some kissin' with my man!
La-huuuvvved this post gorgeous!! xox
I'm off to the shops to order some of that stunning Australis nail colour. Thanks for the Monne recommendation - I have "oh so fair" hibernation skin and turn into a lobster as soon as I look at the sun, so this product would be purrrrfect.
I have gone through 3 tubs of the Maybeline Drama Gel Eyeliner in the past 1.5 years and am still lovin' it! :)
Monne Self Tan is exactly what I need after losing my tan in the temperamental un-summer weather here in Sydney!!
Love this post!
I've got super long hair and you're right - its like living under a doona. Need to get it trimmed, methinks! I love that you didn't lose a heap of length, that restores my faith in hairdressers a little! :)
My best summer tip is baby wipes. As a Mama, I'm sure you're in no shortage of them! They're the best way of giving your skin a quick pick me up - hydration and a quick rosy sheen that I love. Great for running over the ends of your hair when they start to get a little dry after a day at the sun, great to give your nail beds a quick moisturise and super easy to stash in the cutest of beach bags!! :)

There's nothing like a new hair cut to get rid of length, dry split ends, etc! I only cut my hair maybe once or twice a year, I love how it feels afterwards, it's hard to leave it alone! :)
Great post!
Loved this post Nikki! & the family pics in the post above..adorable!
I don't really have a tip per say but whenever im feeling a little run down, i love making the time to totally beautify myself.. ie shave, exfoliate, tan, nailpolish, pluck eyebrows, put in a hair treatment.. none of the products i use are necessarily expensive but man oh man do i feel amazing afterwards! An instant pick me up.
I currently use palmers cocoa butter, i secretly like the smell.. but the people I live with don't! So it would be so great to trial this fake tan since it has your stamp of approval!

Have missed your cute posts of late!
My budget tip is to purchase a bright, flowy vibrant light weight scarf to add some spice and colour to your outfits, wrists, bags and hair all summer long :)
Xx
I love the shots of your family and your recommendations for summer! I will be trying the Maybelline liner when my MAC runs out, thanks :)
My cheap and cheerful summer makeover tactic is a little less "beauty" and a little more "trimmings". Accessories! The brighter and bolder (and cheaper) the better! They are the perfect way to bring the summer jazz to any outfit.
Hi Nikki,
My fav summer makeover trick is a bright clashing mani & pedi. I have a neon purple on my finders and a bright orange on my toes at the moment!
Loving all your tips! Just about to get a hair cut myself. I have crazy fair skin and a family history of skin cancer so I am definitely pro fake tan, however I am yet to find one that i really love! Maybe I should give monne a go!
My tip is also bright nails, I recently aquired a newbee by rimmel called 'Double Decker Red' just in time for the festive season, going to rock it out with my 'Gold Coin' Revlon glitter nail polish!
I love having pamper sessions in the afternoons that I have off from work. Makes me feel so amazing!
Fantastic Post!!
My best tip to shed the skin is off to the beach to scrub scub srub in the sand to exfloiate xx

Nikki!
To be honest my first comment on flairtoremember - mainly because I only just got a blog of my own and still working out how to use everything - I'm the new kid. Although I remember starting to follow your blog about three years ago, I own the yellow playsuit I nabbed from Flairvintage! Thanks again by the way!
But this post I wanted to comment on mainly because my FAV TAN MONNE is no longer stocked on ANY shop in Melbourne any more! That was my ultimate fav tan, I stocked up on the yellow can (the body tan in a can one) right before they took the love of my life away :(
My cheap beauty tip I swear by - Is lucas paw paw on the eyelashes! Many of us know the little red tub/tube is cheap and useable for many things cuts/gloss/chaffing ect, but I also use it on my lashes to hydrate them after a long day or even longer night of layers of masscara or .. in my case fake lashes! lovee it. And I swear it makes them thicker, stronger and healthier!
Yes please. I need to hid my pasty winter skin!!!
<3 <3 <3 <3 beautiful
I love that top/dress in the late photo.
My tip: tan tan tan tan tan... The less natural the better. We don't want any wrinkles.
